About Eric Cavanagh

I was born and raised in the Washington, DC area, and I’ve built my career around relationships, leadership, service, and community involvement. After spending time in Arizona in the early 1980s running a wholesale business, I returned to the DC/MD/VA region, where I raised my family before relocating to Pennsylvania and eventually Jacksonville, Florida, in 1999 while serving as a Regional Manager for a national outsourcing company.

I transitioned into real estate in 2005 following leadership roles in sales and publishing, including serving as General Manager for Coastal Trading Post, affiliated with Cox Publications and Auto Trader. Over the years, I’ve become known for my approachable style, strong communication skills, and dedication to helping people navigate important decisions with confidence.

In addition to my real estate career, I’ve been deeply involved in Realtor leadership and professional advocacy at the local, state, and national levels. I currently serve on the Board of Directors for both the Northeast Florida Association of Realtors (NEFAR) and Florida Realtors. I have chaired, vice-chaired, and served on committees including Education, Professional Development, Candidate Screening, RPAC, and the Global Business Council. My commitment to professional growth and industry service was recognized with the 2025 NEFAR Professional Development Award.

Outside of work, I enjoy staying active in the community through volunteer efforts with my church and local organizations, including Habitat for Humanity Jacksonville (HabiJax), KW Red Day, City Rescue Mission, Sulzbacher, and Hubbard House. I also enjoy homebrewing, travel, exploring local breweries and distilleries, working in my yard, helping neighbors, and spending time in St. Augustine with my wife and friends.

A lifelong music lover, I studied classical violin in my youth and earned a scholarship to the Tanglewood Institute of Music summer program in 1976. I still enjoy playing the violin today. Later, I served as Vice President of the Jacksonville Symphony Youth Orchestra Parents Organization in 2005. I was also active in competitive swimming and Ultimate Frisbee during my school years, lettering in both sports in high school. As a longtime Frisbee enthusiast, I was a charter member of the Washington Area Frisbee Disc Club, founded in the late 1970s, and I still enjoy playing disc golf when time allows.

As an animal lover and sports fan, I shared my home with Italian Greyhounds and Whippets for many years, and I’ve owned cats nearly everywhere I’ve lived.

I bring broad professional experience and a genuine people-first approach to my role at VTR and look forward to building new relationships and contributing to the team’s continued success.
